What to do in Dax?

Dax, a territory with many facets

Take advantage of your stay at the Hotel Le Relais to discover the city of Dax and its rich thermal, cultural and natural heritage.

Dax and its thermal waters

The most important site in Dax is the « Fontaine Chaude » where there is a hot thermal water pool inside a Roman style structure built in the 19th century. The water is about 64°. The pool is fenced but the taps let the thermal water flow. This water is known for the relief of rheumatic ailments, gynaecological problems and vein problems.

Notre-Dame de Dax Cathedral

Dax Cathedral was completed at the end of the 19th century and is built in a classical Greek Revival style. It is built on the site of a 13th century Gothic cathedral and the 'portal' of this original cathedral has been preserved and can be seen in the left transept. It is very richly carved and shows the Last Judgement.

You can also visit the archaeological crypt which contains the remains of a Gallo-Roman temple from the 2nd century, and the arena located in the Parc Théodore Denis.

Museums of Dax

Discover the Georgette Dupouy museum. Georgette Dupouy is a 20th century artist whose paintings are described as impressionist with surrealist tones. They have been exhibited all over the world and sixty of her paintings are now in permanent collection in this museum. You can also visit the Army Light Aviation and Helicopter Museum which has a large collection of French army helicopters and a glimpse of how a helicopter works.

Gardens of Dax

For a refreshing break, discover the Plantarium de Gaujacq, a botanical garden with a large collection of plants. Also to be discovered: the Parc du Sarrat, a three-hectare park with a botanical garden and a vegetable garden.
