The large site offers many free activities perfect for family, your friends or couple. In particular, you can enjoy a guided walk or hike and a permanent exhibition.

For the youngest, many activities and games are organized to let them discover the dune while having fun.

You can also simply climb the dune and attend to the magical show that offers the landscape. The show will be even more beautiful at sunset.

An impressive dune

The dune is the result of the erosion of mountain ranges, wind and dense vegetation. Over the years, sand is tranportated to the land by wind and accumulates when its strikes vegetation to form a dune.

Located at the entrance of the Arcachon Bay, the Pilat Dune is made up of about 60 millions cubic meters of sand. Recognized for its exceptional size, the dune is also known for its diversity and the beauty of its natural environment. In fact, the dune is more than 2,9 km long and 616 meters wide.

Between ocean and forest, the dune is strongly exposed to the wind. This means that on the ocean side, the slope is gentle and slope on the forest side. From year to year, the dune encroaches a little more on the forest borders, dut to the wind. The Pilat Dune is a large classified site in order to preserve it as much at possible.

Access to the dune is free.
